Shooting Practices:

The aim of these shooting practices is to have lots of fun by learning how to shoot a variety of guns safely, competently, accurately and competitively, in a variety of challenging scenarios.

Training: Training is provided by our former specialist Military and Police Firearms Instructors, all of whom have a wealth of experience and knowledge to pass on to our guests. Many of our instructors have won major international shooting competitions.

Prizes: Prizes are awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for each of the shooting practices below.

1. Long Range Target Rifle

Conducted at Bisley’s renowned 600-yard Century range. Shooting includes use of both telescopic and iron sighted rifles.  The latter are similar to those of the original Bisley shooting competitions of the late 1800’s during which both Queen Victoria and Princess Alexandra fired the first shots.  This form of shooting remains central to the world famous annual International Imperial Shooting Competition held at Bisley every summer since 1860 (except during both world wars). With our experienced and friendly instructors coaching, you will be surprised and delighted how quickly you will be hitting the centre of the target.

2 .22 Semi-Automatic

This is conducted on a 50 yard covered range. These are lighter style rifles and are fired either seated or standing with opportunities for high levels of accuracy. Our semi-automatic rifles are fun to use and allow shooters to fire many rounds in a short space of time.

3. Clay Pigeon (Skeet) Shooting Day

Clay pigeon Skeet is an Olympic discipline. Clays are launched at high speed and

at different angles to the participant. Targets fly for around 60 yards and the event

simulates bird hunting.

Shooters take aim from 8 different locations and there is a delay of up to three

seconds after the participant has called for the target. The pace is fast and furious,

but with expert tuition, beginners can master the techniques.

4. Black Powder Pistol

Currently the only full-bore pistol shooting allowed to civilians in the UK following the pistol bans of the 1990’s.  This shooting has roots in the American Civil War using gun powder and lead ball ammunition fired from a six-chamber revolver, shot at 25 yards.

5. Tactical Pistol Day

There is a tremendous amount of satisfaction to be gained from being able to handle a handgun safely, confidently and to shoot it accurately. However, UK law prohibits civilians handling real hand guns.

The Makarov CO2 powered BB gun is the closest you can get to legally handle an authentic looking handgun. It looks, feels and functions like the real thing and enables civilians to be trained and gain practice in firing a hand gun legally. For safety reasons pistol shooting on a range has to be rigorously controlled therefore instruction and practice are first provided to enable the safe and competent handing of a pistol on the firing point.

These include instruction and practice on the commands to: ‘Load’, ‘Make Ready’, ‘Fire’, ‘Stop’, ‘Unload’, ‘Show Gun Clear’ and Stoppage Drills. The marksmanship principles are also taught and practiced, which will enable you to shoot more confidently and accurately at a static target.

After practicing on static paper targets you are put to the test in a competition which reveals who is the quickest to shoot 5 static clay pigeons (mounted on a frame).

6. Engaging Multiple Targets with Automatic Rifle Shoot

As though it wasn’t challenging enough to engage one target as quick as you can, what if you were suddenly confronted with 5 targets that light up randomly – the light on the target indicating the next assailant that is about to open fire on you. If it were for real could you take all 5 out and not shoot the innocent bystander / hostage amongst them before they shot you and your colleagues?

Our instructors will show you how using an AR-15 Airsoft automatic rifle that looks and feels like the real thing but perfectly safe.

7. Mixed Discipline

Tailor your own shooting programme from the shooting practices above, call us to discuss options based on group size, timings and budget. Return to the clubhouse for refreshments, choose from a simple finger buffet to a full cordon bleu menu.
